David Cheung carries on a family tradition that transformed Chinese medicine in Oregon. His late father, Wai Tak Cheung, known as the state’s "Father of Acupuncture”—fought to give acupuncturists equal footing in the medical system, establishing laws, certification standards, and even the nation’s first licensed acupuncture clinic.

Once considered “voodoo” and restricted to doctor supervision, acupuncture is now recognized by Oregon’s Medicaid program as a vital tool in pain management, helping reduce opioid dependence.

From Portland to the rural towns of Pendleton and Hermiston, the Cheungs have expanded access to acupuncture, ensuring underserved communities can benefit from centuries-old practices. David Cheung continues his father’s mission, blending tradition with modern healthcare, one needle at a time.
